ATHENS INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
When traveling to Athens, you'll arrive at Athens International Airport (ATH), the main gateway to the city and surrounding regions. The airport is located approximately 35 kilometers (22 miles) southeast of central Athens, making it a quick 30-40 minute drive or metro ride into the heart of the city.
TAXI SERVICE IN ATHENS
A taxi from the airport to the center of Athens typically costs around €38 during the day (05:00 AM to midnight) and €54 at night (midnight to 05:00 AM). The fare is fixed, ensuring a hassle-free ride.
For those staying at the Dolce by Wyndham Athens Attica Riviera Hotel, the airport is conveniently close, about 15 kilometers (9 miles) away. This short 20-minute drive typically costs around €30-35 by taxi.
If you prefer to book a taxi in advance or use a ride-hailing app, here are some popular options in Athens:
Freenow: A popular taxi app in Athens, allowing you to book a taxi quickly and track its arrival.
Uber: Although Uber operates in Athens, it only offers taxi services, not private cars.
FERRY TICKETS
For those planning to explore the nearby islands, ferry tickets can be easily booked online. We recommend using a reliable service like Ferryhopper to find the best routes and prices.
Athens has two main ferry ports for island departures:
Rafina Port (Recommended): Just a 20-minute drive from your hotel, Rafina is a smaller and less crowded port, offering a more relaxed departure experience. It's an excellent choice for trips to the Cyclades islands.
Piraeus Port: Located 55 minutes from your hotel, Piraeus is the largest port in Greece and offers a wide range of ferry services to various islands. While it’s busier, it provides more frequent departures.
RENTING A CAR IN ATHENS
For those looking to explore Athens and its surrounding areas at their own pace, renting a car can be a convenient and flexible option. Car rentals are readily available both at the airport and in the city center.
Rental Locations: You can rent a car directly at Athens International Airport or from various rental agencies throughout the city. Major international car rental companies such as Hertz, Avis, Europcar, and Sixt are well-represented, along with local providers.
Cost: Rental prices vary depending on the type of vehicle, the season, and the rental duration. On average, you can expect to pay around €30-€60 per day for a compact car. Prices may be higher during peak tourist seasons.
